Museum Mošćenice
At the very entrance to the old town, there is a Museum with its ethnographic collection, which has existed in this area for about forty years and has recently been renovated and modernized.
The museum’s ethnographic collection was created thanks to students from local schools, their teachers, and the local population who collected artifacts in the 1960s, just in time to preserve invaluable objects that reflect the rich ethnographic heritage, traditional life, and culture of the local community.
The collection spans two floors, displaying around 350 objects that tell the story of this region’s architecture, traditional costumes and customs, old crafts… On the first floor, there is an old fireplace with all the household items and tools used in homes, while the upper floor is dedicated to agriculture and economy.
Each floor features an interactive element: one focuses on life in a medieval town and the rules from the statutes (laws), while the other provides an overview of history and the region, including its resources, settlements, and the roads that connect different locations.
On the ground floor of the museum collection, there is a small souvenir shop.

Olive Mill
An integral part of the ethnographic experience is the old olive mill, where olives were once processed.
The authentic underground space with the olive mill – a stone mill powered by horse strength and the hard labor of local people to process olives in a confined space – has been preserved with all the necessary equipment and was in use until the late 1970s.
The olive mill documents the traditional method of olive processing and testifies to a process that has remained largely unchanged in the Mediterranean since Roman times.
For centuries, in that cold time of the year, when the town was filled with the aroma of freshly pressed olive oil, the olive mill was a favorite gathering place for locals and the very heart of social life in Mošćenice.
Mošćenice
Mošćenice (Italian: Moschiena) is a medieval fortified town situated on a hill 173 meters above sea level, on the eastern slopes of Mount Učka. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Kvarner Bay and the islands of Krk and Cres.
Beyond the magnificent view, the town boasts a fascinating historical heritage dating back to the ancient Illyrian Liburnian tribes. The frequent changes of rulers throughout history are evident in its towers, walls, narrow mystical streets, and small churches.
Due to its exceptional beauty and cultural-historical significance, the fortified old town is listed as a protected cultural heritage site of Croatia.
Somewhat “detached from the world,” Mošćenice has been attracting tourists, explorers, hikers, artists, and nature lovers for decades. Its authentic Mediterranean architecture, coastal traditions, and rich history capture the hearts of both intentional and accidental visitors.
Step into the enchanting world of Mošćenice, where walking through this charming town feels like stepping back in time, with every stone telling its own story.
